“I find that if you just talk, your mouth comes up with stuff

If you don’t know who Karl Pilkington is then I assume you’ve been living a life of solitude for the past few years; without TV, internet, or friends. Everyone should have a little Pilkington in their lives. He just brightens up your day, making you laugh with pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth.

A personal favourite quote being,

People in glass houses have to answer the front door” -Karl

Karl’s reworking of the phrase “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.”

It makes total sense right? He makes good observations. And at least 20% of what he comes up with does make a lot of sense.

“Why didn’t evolution make a giraffe good at carpentry so it could build a ladder?” -Karl

He comes out with things that most people can agree with. His idea for the see-through toaster is genius. Wouldn’t you like to make the perfect piece of toast without popping the toaster every few seconds? I know I would.

Ricky Gervais and Steve Merchant, I love you! You brought me The Office, and Extra’s; two of the most enjoyable, belly-laugh-funny TV series I’ve ever seen. But even better than that you brought me An idiot abroad. It’s incredibly funny and entertaining, but also educational as it takes you on a journey with Karl Pilkington, to the Seven Wonders of the World.

We travel with him around the globe as he reluctantly immerses himself in local culture and traditions while Ricky and Steve (from the comfort of their own homes) play practical jokes, pushing him far out of his comfort zone; all for our viewing pleasure, and more importantly theirs.

A personal highlight is when they send Karl to Petra, Jordan. When he arrives he is met by a group of men dancing beside a van blasting out music. This turns out to be his ride; an experience most people would enjoy, but not Karl. As the van stops at every opportunity for the men to get out and dance Karl looks mortified and in the end gets out and runs off, only to find he has to travel eight hours by camel across the desert to his next destination.

“If it was on Location, Location, Location it wouldn’t be on my shortlist.”-Karl

Every episode is so different from the last but equally as funny. He is like a child, so innocent, saying everything that comes in to his head; whether it’s offensive or just funny. But it’s honest. You cant help but want to pat him on his perfectly rounded head and say “there, there”. I definitely think this is up there as one of my favourite TV series.

Now in its second series, which I’ve yet to see but can’t wait for, it’s a huge success and a definite must see. Go and watch it now! 🙂

More people should be like Karl. Or less. I haven’t decided yet.

  2. The second series in incredible. I was skeptical before it aired, but it’s possibly better than the first! Have you listened to the podcasts?
