A GAME OF SHADOWS is my new favourite film of the year (Or at least it’s up there with DRIVE, which currently holds the number one spot on my list). It’s a sharp script filled with smart laughs, striking wit, and some of the most entertaining moments of any film I’ve seen this year. A personal highlight involving Sherlock Holmes and a Shetland pony had me in stitches for a big chunk of the film (your dead inside if you don’t find it funny). Guy Ritchie has outdone himself with a sequel that I would argue is better than his first. It’s explosive, fast-paced, and highly entertaining, with Robert Downey Jnr perfectly cast as the arrogant, and very pompous Sherlock Holmes. He’s so animated, playful and fascinating to watch; especially in scenes with Jude Law (Watson). There’s an undeniable chemistry between the two that makes this unhealthy and very humorous bromance a delight to watch. This is the only film where I don’t detest Jude Law. In fact he’s actually really good in it. They are the perfect and most amusing companions in a story layered with mysticism, romance, intrigue, plenty of action and lots of laughs. And the best thing about it is……………….it ends with a hint (or rather a big fat possibility) of another sequel! Ooooohhhh how exciting 🙂

Although all of the freshness that was part of the first one is somewhat over-used, the flick is still a lot of fun with Downey Jr., Harris, and Law breathing life into each of their own characters. However, I was kind of disappointed by Noomi Rapace’s role as she just simply stands there and really doesn’t do anything. Regardless though, good review.
